The area opened in the early 1970's, with more than 1100 affordable housing units.

It is estimated that around 2500 people live in Risvollan today in 2012.
An essential part of a cultural experience in Trondheim, the Dahl's Beer has been brewed in the city since 1856.

The brewery was established by Erich Christian Dahl at a different location, but relocated to the current location in 1984.
